Kilkenny Castle

A 12th century castle, remodelled in Victorian times and set in extensive parkland. Was the principal seat of the Butler family. Two wings of the Castle have been restored to their 19th century splendour and include a library, drawing room and the magnificent long gallery. The final phase of restoration is complete and includes a state of the art conference centre which is situated in one of the castle’s 12th century towers. 

Accessibility: Parts of the Castle may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. If you have any concerns, please contact us before visiting. Toilet facilities for visitors with disabilities available on request. Public carpark near site. Guiding leaflet in Braille available on request.

Please note that this is a very busy site and visitors may experience delay during the summer months. Groups with more than 10 people need to pre-book. Flash photography/filming not permitted.

Opening Hours:
October to February: 9.30am to 4.30pm
March: 9.30am to 5pm
April and May: 9.30am to 5.30pm
June to August: 9.00am to 5.30pm
September: 9.30am to 5.30pm
High season: self-guiding, last admission 30 mins before closing.
Low season: guided tours only, last admission 45 mins before closing.
