The Thomastown Kindergarten is situated in a rural setting in close vicinity to Kilkenny City and is influenced by the Steiner Waldorf approach. They offer a rich foundation for the 2.5yr old to 5yr old child. Their main emphasis lies in creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in which the child is allowed to learn by example rather than direct instructions. The activites reflect the concerns, interests and developmental stages of the child and the environment is designed to foster personal and social learning giving a foundation for later formal learning. 

Each day is marked with a different activity integrated into the seasons, days and weeks such as: watercolour painting, bread baking, bees-wax modelling, art and craft, gardening, music, ring-time, puppet show, creative play and lots of outdoor play. The toys and materials used are natural, stimulating to touch and imaginative. 

Snack times are prepared and shared together using organic ingredients wherever possible and inviting social conversation. In recognition of its vital role in early childhood education they offer the children time to play and they hope to offer an education that prepares the child "for life from life".
